Network Settings for SIP and H323 System Connectivity

This article describes the most important system and network settings you need to ensure in order to connect your SIP or H323 video conferencing systems to the VEEDEEO cloud.

We strongly recommend you to use SIP protocol (instead of H323) when connecting your video conferencing room to VEEDEEO.

The settings below apply to room video conferencing equipments but also to any video softphones that support the SIP or H323 video standards.

Requirements

To use the VEEDEEO cloud, your SIP / H323 video conferencing system must:

  • ... have external connectivity to the VEEDEEO servers (view network settings below)
  • ... have symmetric UDP enabled in your network
  • ... use the standard SIP or H323 protocols
  • ... be able to do URI dialing (i.e. 123@veedeeo.net)
    • Some older systems are not able to do URI dialing but only IP dialing. If you have a system that can only do IP dialing you can still use VEEDEEO - please contact us for details.

General System Settings

On your video conferencing equipment:

  • Set the Default Transport Protocol to TCP.

Network Settings

Make sure your video systems can connect externally to the VEEDEEO cloud, located at veedeeo.net / 23.251.132.153.

If needed, request your network administrators to do the necessary firewall configurations considering the requirements below.

Note: Static NAT and inbound ports may also be required. Check the manufacturers specifications.

SIP Connections

  • For Call Signaling, allow:
    • outbound traffic to 23.251.132.153: ports 5060/5061 TCP
  • For Media streaming, allow:
    • outbound and inbound traffic in ports 50000 to 60000 UDP (any IP)

H323 Connections

  • For Signaling, allow:
    • outbound traffic to 23.251.132.153: ports 1720 TCP and 1719 UDP
  • For Media streaming, allow:
    • outbound and inbound traffic in ports 10000 to 28000 UDP and 30000 to 30500 UDP (any IP)
    • If you register your system at the VEEDEEO Gatekeeper using H.460.18, you don't need to open any inbound ports (you just need to allow outbound traffic to any port, which is the default for most firewalls).
    • When using H323, we strongly recomend that you register your system in the VEEDEEO Gatekeeper because the ports that will be used in the connection are vendor (equipment) specific and may vary. If you do not register your system with VEEDEEO, you may need to open all TCP and UDP ports above 1024 (inbound and outbound).

Your browser needs to have network access to:

  • for the web application:
    • *.veedeeo.me (TCP ports 80 and 443)
    • veedeeo.secure.force.com (TCP port 443)
    • veedeeo.firebaseio.com (TCP port 443)
  • for media:
    • *.veedeeo.net (TCP ports 80 and 443)
    • UDP ports 50000 to 60000 (any IP)

UDP Any Any Any 50000 - 60000 RTP Media using UDP

If browser is unable to connect media via UDP it will try to connect using the standard HTTP TCP port 80, but this may result in poor performance and poor video quality. In the event of poor bandwidth or network congestion and if video or audio packets get dropped, TCP connections will try to resend these packages resulting in poor user experience with the service. UDP streaming will not retransmit old real time media packets, only the new ones. This allows the meeting to recover quickly after the congestion event.

Registering Your System @ VEEDEEO

For better connectivity (specially in H323 connections), you should register your system in the VEEDEEO cloud gateway (optional for SIP connections).

Registering your system with VEEDEEO provides a better user experience since it enables users to connect to VEEDEEO by dialling a simple video number (i.e. 700000) instead of a complete URI (i.e. 700000@veedeeo.net).

When connecting via H323 you should register your system with VEEDEEO.

To register your video systems with VEEDEEO, use the following information:

  • Registration address: veedeeo.net or 23.251.132.153
    • SIP: register your video endpoints at the VEEDEEO Admin Console and use the Video Number and Registration PIN provided for each endpoint as username and password.
    • H323: register your video endpoints at the Admin Console and use the Video Number and Registration PIN provided for each endpoint as username and password.

Testing Your Connection

You can do a test call to the VEEDEEO cloud by dialling the following test video numbers from your video conference system:

Note: this test connection is only 1 minute long and then automatically disconnects.
